One supporter said Dhoni continues to look fit and hoped he would fulfil the dream of fans by appearing in a game at his home ground before his final farewell.
Dhoni’s career remains one of the most inspiring stories in world sport. Starting as a ticket collector at a railway station , he rose to become India’s most successful limited-overs captain and one of cricket’s greatest finishers. Since making his international debut in 2004, Dhoni transformed himself from an aggressive power hitter into a calm and calculated batter known for guiding teams to victories under pressure.
During his captaincy, India achieved an unprecedented feat by winning all three major ICC white-ball trophies the 2007 ICC T20 World Cup , the 2011 Cricket World Cup , and the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy . His leadership also changed the way India approached limited-overs cricket and redefined the role of a wicketkeeper-batter.
Dhoni finished his international career with 538 appearances, 17,266 runs and 829 dismissals across formats. In 350 ODIs , he scored 10,773 runs at an average of 50.57, including 10 centuries and 73 half-centuries, with a highest score of an unbeaten 183. Despite batting mostly in the middle order, he maintained a remarkable record while frequently arriving in difficult situations.
As ODI captain, Dhoni led India in 200 matches , winning 110 games. In T20 internationals, he scored 1,617 runs in 98 matches and guided India to their maiden T20 World Cup title in 2007. He captained India in 72 T20Is, winning 41 matches.
Dhoni’s Test career was also significant, with 4,876 runs in 90 matches , including six centuries and a highest score of 224. Under his leadership, India reached the No. 1 position in ICC Test rankings for the first time. He also became the only Indian captain to lead the team to a 4-0 home series whitewash against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Known for his calm temperament, tactical brilliance and finishing skills , Dhoni continues to inspire millions of fans. His legacy goes beyond statistics, with his leadership and approach to the game leaving an unforgettable mark on Indian cricket.
