From Kathak to Bharatanatyam, 387 Artists Showcase India's Cultural Heritage at Carnegie Hall in New York
India's rich civilisational heritage took centre stage at New York City's iconic Carnegie Hall as nearly 387 artists presented a spectacular showcase of classical and folk dance traditions during the All-Indian Dance Festival 2026 , organised by the Consulate General of India in New York in collaboration with Philadelphia-based non-profit dance organisation Three Aksha. Held at the prestigious Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage , the festival drew an audience of around 2,800 and reinforced India's growing cultural footprint across the global Indian diaspora.
Staged a day after the United States marked its 250th Independence anniversary, the two-hour event reflected the deepening cultural engagement between India and the US. Organisers describe the annual festival as one of North America's leading platforms dedicated to Indian classical and folk dance, bringing together young artists from across the United States and abroad while preserving centuries-old traditions for future generations.
Consul General Binaya Pradhan praised the performers for presenting the depth, diversity and living continuity of more than 5,000 years of Indian civilization, describing the performances as a journey across India's cultural landscape. He also congratulated Viji Rao , founder of Three Aksha, for curating the festival at one of the world's most prestigious performance venues. Founded in 2002, Three Aksha has spent more than two decades promoting Indian performing arts through productions, education and cultural collaborations in the United States.
Rao emphasised the importance of passing India's cultural traditions to younger generations of Indian Americans through dance and the arts. The programme featured Kathak, Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, Odissi, Mohiniyattam, Garba and Bhangra , beginning and concluding with stirring renditions of Vande Mataram . Performances by Notes n Beats School, Nrithya Samarpanam, Odisha Society of the Americas, Lahari Abbaraju, Nupoor Dance School, Rhythm Dancers, Bharathakala Naatya Academy, NachNation, Abhinaya Tharangini Academy of Kuchipudi Dance and Three Aksha celebrated India's unity in diversity, with audiences applauding the seamless blend of tradition, devotion and artistic excellence.
