Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday embarked on a six nation diplomatic tour covering the United Arab Emirates , Netherlands , Sweden , Norway and Italy , aimed at strengthening India’s global partnerships amid rising geopolitical tensions and energy market instability.

The visit began with Modi’s arrival in Abu Dhabi, where he was received by UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan . In a notable gesture, a formation of UAE Air Force F-16 fighter jets escorted the Prime Minister’s aircraft as it entered UAE airspace, marking a symbolic display of close bilateral ties. Modi also received a ceremonial guard of honour upon arrival.

During his meeting with the UAE leadership, Modi thanked the UAE President for the warm reception and the air escort, calling it an honour for the people of India. He said India remains committed to deepening ties across sectors including energy, investment and supply chains , while also expressing support for peace and stability in West Asia.

In the bilateral talks, both sides focused on strengthening the India UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership , with special emphasis on energy security amid ongoing instability in the Gulf region. Discussions also covered the evolving West Asia situation, where tensions have disrupted global oil supply routes and raised concerns over maritime trade stability, particularly through the Strait of Hormuz.

India reiterated its readiness to extend all possible support for peace in the region, while acknowledging the importance of restraint and diplomatic engagement in handling the crisis. The UAE leadership’s approach to managing regional tensions was also appreciated during the discussions.

The UAE remains one of India’s most important strategic partners, with strong cooperation in trade, investment, energy and a large Indian diaspora contributing to deep people to people ties.

Following the brief UAE visit, the Prime Minister will continue his tour to Europe, beginning with the Netherlands, followed by Sweden, Norway and Italy. The visits are expected to focus on expanding cooperation in technology, clean energy, defence, innovation and trade , while reinforcing India’s growing engagement with key global partners.
