From Delhi to Amaravati: Chandrababu Naidu Invites Japan Diplomats to Andhra Pradesh

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday extended a warm invitation to diplomats from the Japanese Embassy in India to visit Andhra Pradesh , highlighting the state’s rich culture, cuisine and hospitality , after they enjoyed a traditional Andhra meal at the Andhra Pradesh Bhavan canteen in New Delhi.

A delegation of Japanese diplomats visited Andhra Bhavan as a group and partook of a traditional Andhra thali for lunch. The meal, known for its variety and bold flavours , included a range of vegetarian dishes, spicy curries and accompaniments that reflect the culinary heritage of Andhra Pradesh . Sharing their experience on social media platform X , the diplomats said they thoroughly enjoyed the authentic Andhra thali , describing it as flavourful, spicy and memorable .

Responding to the post, the Chief Minister expressed happiness that the diplomats had experienced traditional Andhra cuisine at Andhra Bhavan. He said such cultural exchanges help strengthen people-to-people ties between India and Japan . “Guests from Japan will always find warmth and affection in Andhra Pradesh. We look forward to welcoming you to Andhra Pradesh, your second home ,” Mr. Naidu wrote.

Drawing a comparison between cuisines, Mr. Naidu noted that just as Japanese dishes such as sushi and sashimi are prepared with precision and care , Andhra food too reflects the generosity and cultural depth of its people, underscoring food as an important medium of cultural understanding .

Adding a personal and light-hearted moment to the exchange, Japanese Ambassador to India Keiichi Ono embraced local dining customs by trying biryani by hand , following the example of his Indian friends. Sharing his experience online, he said that biryani tastes even better when eaten by hand, much like sushi, and that the experience made him feel closer to Indian culture .

The interaction drew wide attention on social media, with many praising it as a symbol of growing cultural ties and strengthening diplomatic relations between India and Japan .
