Fresh Encounter in North Kashmir: Two Suspected Terrorists Killed in Kupwara
Security forces reportedly killed two suspected terrorists during an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Saturday after alert troops detected suspicious movement near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Keran sector, triggering a gunfight and a search operation.
The incident took place in the Jumgund area of north Kashmir. According to officials, troops noticed suspicious movement along the LoC in the early hours of Saturday and challenged the individuals. An exchange of fire followed as security personnel moved to intercept them.
Subsequent reports said two suspected terrorists had been killed in the operation. The initial information, however, did not establish whether the movement was part of an infiltration attempt, and the circumstances surrounding the incident remained under investigation.
Security forces continued search operations in the area to check for additional suspects and establish the full sequence of events. The operation also focused on determining whether anyone had managed to cross the LoC.
The Keran sector, which lies along the heavily guarded frontier in north Kashmir, has witnessed counter-infiltration operations in the past. Security forces routinely maintain surveillance along the LoC to detect suspicious movement and prevent armed groups from entering Indian territory.
