Free Cancer Screening Camps for Sanitation Workers Under GHMC Initiative

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has launched a key initiative to safeguard the health of sanitation workers who work tirelessly to keep the city clean. With the well-being of its workers and employees in focus, GHMC is conducting free mobile cancer awareness and screening camps . The programme is being implemented in collaboration with Karkinos Healthcare and with support from the Indian Cancer Society .

The mobile health camps primarily prioritise sanitation workers. Screenings for oral cancer, breast cancer and cervical cancer are being conducted for women, while men are being screened for oral cancer. Medical experts are creating awareness that early detection significantly improves the ease and effectiveness of treatment . They are also emphasising the importance of timely health check-ups and not neglecting one’s health.

Boost in Confidence Among Workers

Sanitation workers who participated in the camp expressed happiness over the initiative. They said the screenings helped reduce their fear of cancer and instilled confidence to pay greater attention to their health. They also appreciated being treated not merely as employees but as members of an extended family, calling the initiative encouraging and reassuring.

E. Lakshmamma, a sanitation worker from Malakpet, said the free mobile cancer screening camp was highly beneficial. She noted that early detection makes treatment easier and said the initiative would particularly benefit sanitation workers.
