Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy inaugurated Allu Cinemas in Kokapet on Thursday evening, marking a landmark moment for cinema lovers in the city. The multiplex boasts a Dolby Cinema screen , only the third of its kind in India and the world's third largest, a feat that should have dominated the conversation. Instead, it was a wall that stole the spotlight.

Tucked in the lounge balcony is a carefully curated "Wall of Fame" , celebrating what the management considers the defining directors of contemporary Indian cinema. Names like SS Rajamouli, Mani Ratnam, Sukumar, Sandeep Reddy Vanga, Prashant Neel, Vetrimaran, and Raj Kumar Hirani adorn the frames. On paper, an admirable tribute. On social media, a firestorm.

The internet quickly noticed who was missing . Director Shankar was conspicuously absent . So were Boyapati Sreenu and Puri Jagannadh, two directors instrumental in building the very mass-hero image that defines Allu Arjun today. Critics observed that the selection bore a striking resemblance to Allu Arjun's personal wishlist , featuring directors he has worked with or is rumoured to collaborate with in the future.

As the debate grew, a separate wall featuring legends like K. Vishwanath, Dasari Narayana Rao, and K. Balachander came to light, softening some outrage. Yet even that wall drew criticism for omitting icons like KV Reddy and Singeetham Srinivasa Rao.

Herein lies the unavoidable trap of such an exercise. Every choice is also a rejection, and no curated list can ever satisfy everyone. The real mistake was not revealing the complete gallery from the start. When only fragments are visible, speculation fills the gaps.

A world-class cinema deserves a world-class unveiling , and next time, it would be wise to let the screens, not the walls, do the talking.
