Foxconn to build Taiwan’s largest AI supercomputing data center with Nvidia GB300

Foxconn, the Taiwanese multinational electronics giant best known for assembling Apple’s iPhones, announced on Friday that it will build a cutting-edge data center in Taiwan in the first half of 2026, powered by Nvidia’s latest GB300 NVL72 platform. The facility is set to become the country’s largest AI supercomputing hub, reflecting Foxconn’s growing ambitions beyond electronics manufacturing into the fast-expanding world of artificial intelligence.

At Hon Hai Tech Day, Neo Yao, CEO of Foxconn’s AI-infrastructure arm Visionbay.ai, said the data center will have a capacity of 27 megawatts, making it one of the most powerful computing hubs in the region. It will be the first facility in Asia to adopt Nvidia’s GB300 platform, designed for high-performance AI workloads such as large-scale generative AI models, machine learning, and data analytics. The GB300 NVL72 offers significantly higher computing speed, energy efficiency, and memory capacity compared to previous-generation systems, making it ideal for complex AI applications. Yao described the project as a key step in Foxconn’s push toward “sovereign AI,” a strategy aimed at creating and controlling AI systems using domestic data, talent, and infrastructure, rather than relying heavily on foreign resources.

Foxconn has already installed four AI server racks with Nvidia’s previous-generation GB200 GPU systems. At the new center, the company plans to deploy 144 GB300 platforms, marking a significant upgrade in its AI capabilities. Visionbay.ai, a trusted Nvidia Cloud Partner, is deepening its collaboration with Nvidia to bring next-generation AI infrastructure to Asia, reflecting the region’s growing demand for advanced computing solutions.

Alexis Bjorlin, Nvidia’s vice president of cloud operations, highlighted that Taiwan’s more than 1.6 million small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are seeking technology upgrades to stay competitive. The new data center will provide local computing power to these businesses, enabling faster innovation and production while reducing cybersecurity risks linked to relying on overseas computing resources.

Beyond Taiwan, Foxconn is expanding its AI efforts globally. The company announced collaborations with OpenAI and Alphabet’s Intrinsic on AI projects in the United States, as part of its “3 plus 3” diversification strategy. This plan focuses on three emerging industries, electric vehicles, robotics, and digital healthcare, powered by AI, semiconductor, and communications technologies. By integrating AI into these sectors, Foxconn aims to move beyond its traditional role as a contract manufacturer and become a leader in next-generation technology solutions.

Foxconn’s investment is likely to influence AI development and adoption worldwide. By creating one of Asia’s largest AI supercomputing centers, the company is positioning Taiwan as a regional hub for AI innovation, which could attract international tech companies and startups seeking high-performance computing resources. This will help reduce dependency on U.S. and European cloud providers and strengthen Taiwan’s role in the global AI supply chain.

The project may also accelerate competition among global AI hardware providers. As more companies build domestic AI infrastructure, there could be pressure on semiconductor and GPU markets, driving innovation and potentially lowering costs for high-performance AI systems. Furthermore, Foxconn’s “sovereign AI” approach could inspire other nations to invest in localized AI ecosystems, reshaping global AI governance, data security, and technological independence.

Analysts also note that the facility could indirectly boost AI-driven industries worldwide, from smart manufacturing to healthcare, by providing a model for scalable, high-speed AI infrastructure. Combined with Foxconn’s global manufacturing and technology reach, this could accelerate AI adoption across multiple sectors, creating new opportunities and competitive dynamics in the tech ecosystem.
