The incident has also raised serious questions about the initial police and medical response. Family members and local residents alleged that the police were slow to register a formal complaint and that the child was given only basic first aid at the Tarakeshwar Rural Hospital before being sent home. It was only after protests from relatives and members of the community that the authorities intervened again and arranged for her transfer to the Chandannagar sub-divisional hospital for systematic treatment.

The arrest of the child’s grandfather under the POCSO Act has led to further outrage, with opposition leaders accusing the state government of failing to ensure the safety of children and women. Critics argue that institutional lapses and delays in responding to such cases point to deeper systemic problems in the state’s law and order machinery.

Government officials have not yet publicly addressed these allegations. The survivor is currently under medical care and counselling support has been sought through child protection services.
