Four Killed, Two Injured in NH-40 Road Accident in Nandyal

A horrific road accident occurred on National Highway - 40 in Nandyal district during the early hours of Friday, leaving four people dead on the spot and two others seriously injured. The accident took place near Nallagattu village in Allagadda mandal, once again highlighting safety concerns on this busy highway stretch.

According to police, six friends from Nizampet in Hyderabad had travelled to Tirupati for a pilgrimage and were returning when the incident occurred. As their car reached the Nallagattu area, it reportedly lost control due to overspeeding and rammed into the road median. The impact was so severe that the car jumped the divider and landed on the opposite carriageway.

At the same time, a private bus travelling from Hyderabad to Puducherry was passing through the stretch and crashed into the car. The collision completely mangled the vehicle, leaving its occupants trapped inside.

Four persons travelling in the car Gunderao, Sravan, Narasimha and Bunny sustained fatal injuries and died on the spot. The injured, Sai and Siddharth , were immediately shifted by police to the Nandyal Government Hospital for treatment. The condition of one of them is stated to be critical. Police said all the deceased were running a catering business in Nizampet.

Meanwhile, all passengers travelling in the bus escaped unhurt, preventing a larger tragedy. Police rushed to the spot soon after receiving information and carried out rescue operations. Bus passengers were later sent to their destinations in another vehicle.

Allagadda DSP Pramod Kumar said preliminary investigation indicated overspeeding by the car driver as the main cause of the accident. A case has been registered and further investigation is underway to ascertain all circumstances leading to the mishap.

The incident once again drew attention to the accident-prone nature of the NH-40 stretch near Allagadda, particularly during pre-dawn hours when high speeds and driver fatigue often lead to fatal crashes.

Reacting to the incident, State Transport Minister Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy expressed deep shock and conveyed condolences to the bereaved families. He instructed the district collector to ensure the injured receive the best possible medical care. Agriculture Minister Kinjarapu Atchannaidu and R&B Minister B.C. Janardhan Reddy also expressed grief over the tragic incident.
