A devastating explosion in Sri Sathya Sai district on Wednesday exposed the dangers of illegal storage of explosives , leaving four people dead and at least 18 others injured , several critically. The incident occurred in Kummaravandlapalli village of Kadiri mandal , where a house storing detonators and ammonium sulphate suddenly exploded, triggering panic and widespread destruction. The impact intensified when gas cylinders caught fire , causing a chain reaction that destroyed at least two houses and left many trapped under debris.

According to District Superintendent of Police S. Satish , the blast took place around 12:30 PM , sending shockwaves across the area. Officials found that migrant workers from Telangana were residing in the house, having come in search of livelihood. As the explosion ripped through the village, residents rushed out in fear while fire and police teams quickly reached the spot, rescuing victims and shifting the injured to hospitals. Several of the injured remain in critical condition.

Preliminary investigations revealed that two individuals, Venkanna and Sampath , were involved in breaking rocks in nearby hills and had allegedly been storing explosive materials like detonators, ammonium sulphate, and diesel inside their home. Moments before the blast, they reportedly sensed danger and escaped with their children. However, in a tragic turn, locals who rushed to douse the flames were caught in the explosion, leading to multiple fatalities. Police, along with a clues team , are collecting evidence to determine the exact cause.

Reacting to the incident, Home Minister Anitha expressed deep grief and reviewed the situation with district officials, assuring that the government would extend full support to victims’ families . Minister Satyakumar directed authorities to ensure better medical treatment for the injured and speed up relief measures. Meanwhile, former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy demanded strict action against those responsible and called for tighter regulation of explosive materials to prevent such tragedies in the future.

Police have launched a detailed investigation into how such a large quantity of explosives was procured and whether proper permissions were obtained. The injured are being treated at the Kadiri Government Hospital , while forensic experts are assisting in analyzing the blast. As authorities continue their probe, the village remains in mourning, with families grieving the sudden and tragic loss of their loved ones.
