Four Decades of Venky Magic: Victory Venkatesh Celebrates 40 Years in Cinema

Telugu cinema star Daggubati Venkatesh, popularly known as Victory Venky, is marking 40 years as a leading actor, celebrating a remarkable journey that has taken him from action entertainers and romantic dramas to family films, comedy blockbusters and intense thrillers.

Born into the influential film family of veteran producer D. Ramanaidu, Venkatesh was exposed to cinema from an early age. Interestingly, acting was not initially his career plan. After schooling in Chennai, he completed his B.Com at Loyola College and later pursued an MBA in the United States. He returned to India with an interest in film production, but eventually stepped in front of the camera.

His association with cinema actually began much earlier, when he appeared as a child artist in Prema Nagar in 1971. However, his major acting journey began with K. Raghavendra Rao’s Kaliyuga Pandavulu in 1986, produced by his father. The film was a commercial success and also marked the South Indian debut of Khushbu Sundar.

Venkatesh quickly established himself as an actor to watch. Films such as Brahma Puthrudu, Swarnakamalam, Prema, Bobbili Raja and Kshana Kshanam showcased his range during the early years. Swarnakamalam brought critical recognition, while Prema earned him a Nandi Award for Best Actor. Bobbili Raja further strengthened his position as a major commercial star.

The 1990s saw Venkatesh successfully move between action, romance, family dramas and socially relevant stories. His performances in Chanti, Dharma Chakram, Pavitra Bandham, Preminchukundam Raa, Suryavamsam and Ganesh added different dimensions to his screen image. His work in Dharma Chakram and Ganesh also brought major acting honours.

The new millennium brought another hugely popular phase. Kalisundam Raa, Jayam Manadera, Nuvvu Naaku Nachav, Vasantam, Malliswari, Sankranti and Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu cemented his reputation as a star who could effortlessly connect with family audiences. His comic timing became particularly popular through films such as Nuvvu Naaku Nachav, while Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu, alongside Mahesh Babu, became a notable multi-starrer.

Venkatesh continued reinventing himself rather than relying solely on his established image. He delivered acclaimed performances in Drushyam, Drushyam 2, Guru and Narappa, while comedy hits such as F2 and F3 introduced him to another generation of viewers. His association with nephew Naga Chaitanya in Venky Mama also became a special chapter in his career.

Beyond Telugu cinema, Venkatesh also ventured into Hindi films with Anari and Taqdeerwala, while his later work included the streaming series Rana Naidu, alongside nephew Rana Daggubati.

As he completes four decades in the industry, tributes have poured in from fans and colleagues. Khushbu, who shared the screen with him in Kaliyuga Pandavulu, recalled their early days and described Venkatesh as a lifelong friend. Fan celebrations, including banners and events in Guntur, have added to the occasion.

With films such as Sankranthiki Vasthunam adding another successful chapter to his career and more projects ahead, Venkatesh's journey remains a rare example of longevity built not merely on stardom, but on his willingness to evolve with changing audiences.

Four decades after his breakthrough, Victory Venky remains one of Telugu cinema's most recognisable and enduring stars, an actor whose career has been defined by versatility, consistency and an unmistakable connection with family audiences.
