Former Minister Ushasri Charan Leads Anti-Drug Awareness Drive in Penukonda

Reinforcing the message of a drug-free society, former minister and YSRCP Sri Sathya Sai district president Ushasri Charan spearheaded an anti-drug awareness campaign in Somandepalli mandal of the Penukonda constituency on Sunday.

The programme, organised under the theme “Say No to Drugs – Save Youth,” brought together a large number of young people who participated in a 2K awareness run aimed at highlighting the dangers of substance abuse and promoting a healthy lifestyle. Ushasri Charan and her husband joined the youth during the run, lending support to the campaign and encouraging community participation.

Carrying the slogan “Say No to Drugs, Say Yes to Life,” participants used the event to spread awareness about the harmful effects of narcotics and the need to protect young people from addiction. The campaign focused on educating the public about the social and personal consequences of drug abuse, particularly among adolescents and young adults.

Addressing the gathering after the rally, Ushasri Charan described youth as the driving force behind the state’s progress and future development. She expressed concern over the growing threat posed by drugs and other intoxicating substances, warning that addiction can derail the aspirations of young people and prevent them from achieving their full potential.

She urged students and young professionals to focus on education, hard work and discipline , stressing that these values are essential for building successful careers and meaningful lives. Drug addiction, she said, not only harms individuals but also places immense emotional and social burdens on families and communities.

Highlighting the long-term consequences of substance abuse, Ushasri Charan noted that dependence on drugs can shatter dreams, undermine opportunities and push young lives towards uncertainty. She called on parents, educators and community leaders to work together in preventing the spread of drug abuse and creating a supportive environment for the younger generation.

Reaffirming her commitment to the cause, she said the vision is to build a safe, healthy and drug-free Penukonda , where young people can pursue their ambitions without the threat of addiction. She also appealed to society at large to join hands in the fight against drugs and promote awareness at every level.
