Former Jharkhand CM Champai Soren’s grandson dies in Manali
Former Jharkhand chief minister Champai Soren’s grandson, Veer Soren, died in Manali on Tuesday after sudden deterioration of health following a visit to high-altitude locations , police said. The 19-year-old student , son of Babulal Soren, had arrived in Himachal Pradesh on February 22 with friends and was staying at a homestay in Simsa village near Manali.
On February 23, the group visited Solang Valley, Sethan village and Hamta Pass , all situated at high elevations. According to police, Veer complained of a severe headache after returning and took medication before resting. A few hours later, his friends heard a thud and found him lying unconscious on the floor, having apparently fallen from his bed. Froth from the mouth was observed while he was being rushed to the Civil Hospital in Manali, where doctors administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation, but he was declared brought dead.
Manali Deputy Superintendent of Police K D Sharma said no external injury marks were found on the body and no foul play was suspected . The family declined a post-mortem examination, and the body was later handed over after completing formalities. Although the exact cause of death is yet to be established, police said the possibility of high-altitude sickness (hypoxemia) could not be ruled out.
Champai Soren reached Manali with family members and requested that no autopsy be conducted. Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren and Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu expressed deep condolences, describing the death as an irreparable loss and extending solidarity with the grieving family during their moment of profound sorrow.
