Bengaluru police have registered an FIR against a former senior employee of an IT firm for allegedly stealing proprietary software source code and other confidential data valued at about Rs 87 crore , officials said on Tuesday.

The accused, Ashutosh Nigam , was employed as a senior manager research scientist with Amadeus Software Labs India Private Limited , a global travel technology company, from February 1, 2020 . He was residing in Bengaluru at the time of the alleged offence.

He is accused of transferring the source code and other sensitive data to his personal email account without the company’s consent or approval. The alleged breach was detected through internal monitoring and audit mechanisms.

The complaint stated that when confronted with internal findings, records and reports, Nigam admitted to exfiltrating the source code , and the admission was video recorded by the company as part of its internal inquiry.

Police said further investigation is underway to ascertain the full extent of the alleged breach, the method used to transfer the data and whether the confidential information was shared or misused.
