Former CM Jagan appears in Nampally Court

Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy appeared at the Nampally special CBI court on Thursday in connection with a long-running disproportionate assets case, nearly six years after the court had issued mandatory personal appearance orders.

Strict security arrangements were in place around the court for his arrival. After completing the necessary formalities inside, Jagan left without speaking to the media. His lawyer, Venkateswara Rao, confirmed that Jagan’s appearance was in compliance with the court’s instructions and that the court recorded his presence. He added that the day’s application proceedings were concluded, and the next hearing date has not yet been scheduled.

The case dates back to 2012 when the CBI alleged that Jagan, while his father Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy was Chief Minister, had entered into business deals under the “quid pro quo” model with several businessmen and gained undue benefits, channeling investments into his companies in return. Jagan has consistently maintained that these allegations are politically motivated.

The death of Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy in a helicopter crash in 2009 reshaped Andhra Pradesh’s political landscape. Jagan quickly rose to prominence, later serving as Chief Minister from 2019 to 2024 after the state’s bifurcation. He continues to be a dominant figure in the state’s politics.
