Former BJP leader R K Singh to launch new political party in Bihar
Former bureaucrat-turned-politician R K Singh has said he plans to launch his own political party, about five months after quitting the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) , with the proposed outfit expected to focus primarily on Bihar and broader national issues.
Singh, a former Union power minister and ex-MP from Arrah, said the new party would seek to bring together “honest, educated and caste-free individuals” committed to working for national and public interest. He made the remarks during an interview with Dynamite News as part of the programme The Candid Talk , hosted by journalist Manoj Tibrewal Aakash.
The 73-year-old former IAS officer , who served as Union home secretary before entering politics, joined the BJP in 2014 after retiring from the civil services. He later served in the Union government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi , holding the power portfolio for about seven years. Singh said that despite his outspoken nature, he was allowed to function freely during his tenure and that the Prime Minister’s Office did not interfere in his ministry’s work.
Singh left the BJP in November 2025 after being suspended for alleged anti-party activities , with the party issuing him a show-cause notice and asking him to explain his conduct. He had been critical of the party leadership and certain NDA leaders in Bihar after losing the 2024 Lok Sabha election.
During the interview, Singh also criticised former Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar , saying his first tenure was satisfactory but alleging that corruption was widespread during the second term.
He further questioned the leadership credentials of current Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary , who was sworn in on April 15, becoming the first BJP leader to head the state government , marking a significant shift in Bihar’s political landscape.
Singh said the emerging political situation in the state has created space for a new political platform centred on governance, integrity and public interest.
