Food safety crackdown on sweet shops ahead of Diwali in T’gana
Ahead of the Diwali festival, the Telangana Food Safety Department conducted special inspections across all 33 districts of the state, focusing on sweet-making units and retail outlets. The main goal of the drive was to ensure that safe and quality food reaches consumers during the festive season.
During the inspections, authorities found several units using artificial colors, non-food grade silver foils, adulterated ghee, and reused cooking oil. Officials have expressed serious concern over these violations.
Telangana Food Safety Commissioner stated on X that the drive covered 95 sweet-making units, with 157 samples collected from 77 of them for laboratory analysis. Authorities warned consumers not to buy contaminated or unsafe food during the festival and reminded manufacturers to strictly follow quality standards.
Officials emphasized that such safety drives are part of the government’s efforts to ensure that consumers have access to safe and high-quality food, especially during festivals.
