Foetus Found in Hospital Bathroom, Minor Alleges Sexual Exploitation in Himachal

A foetus discovered in the bathroom of a government hospital in Himachal Pradesh’s Sirmour district has triggered a sensitive police investigation, bringing renewed focus on gaps in safeguarding vulnerable minors despite existing legal protections.

The incident occurred on Wednesday at the Rajgarh Civil Hospital, where a sanitation worker noticed a suspicious object in a toilet. Upon closer inspection, it was identified as a foetus, prompting hospital authorities to alert the police.

Subsequent examination of CCTV footage led officials to a minor girl who had visited the hospital earlier that day complaining of abdominal pain . According to the preliminary probe, the girl suffered a miscarriage in the hospital bathroom and left the premises shortly thereafter.

During questioning, the minor alleged that she had been sexually exploited by a young man several months ago . Based on her statement, police have registered a case and initiated an investigation to identify and apprehend the accused.

Authorities said the foetus has been sent for forensic examination, with its gestational age prima facie estimated at four to five months , though official confirmation is awaited.

Sirmour Superintendent of Police N S Negi stated that the case is being handled with “utmost seriousness,” given the involvement of a minor and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
