FM Sitharaman seeks Lok Sabha nod for extra FY26 spending via appropriation bill

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will on Monday move the Appropriation (No. 4) Bill, 2025 in the Lok Sabha, seeking Parliament’s approval to withdraw additional funds from the Consolidated Fund of India to meet expenditure requirements for FY26. The House will meet at 11 am with a full agenda including supplementary demands for grants, committee reports, ministerial statements, and other legislative business.

The Bill seeks approval for supplementary financial requirements for various government services during the current financial year, allowing the government to legally spend beyond the allocations approved in the Union Budget. Such Bills are introduced after supplementary demands for grants are voted by Parliament.

The session will begin with obituary references for former MPs Subhash Ahuja (Sixth Lok Sabha), Prof. Salahuddin (Eighth Lok Sabha), and Bal Krishna Chauhan (Thirteenth Lok Sabha), followed by Question Hour for oral and written replies.

Several Union Ministers will lay papers on the Table of the House from ministries including Finance, Culture, Education, Labour, Environment, Tourism, Corporate Affairs, and Skill Development. The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) will present two reports for 2025-26:

• 34th Report:

• “Irregular grant of incentives and allowances”

• 35th Report:

• Action taken on recommendations related to the National Social Assistance Programme

Under committee-related business , MPs Kanimozhi Karunanidhi and Malvika Devi will lay the final action taken statement of the Standing Committee on Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution.

During ministerial statements, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary will make four statements on the implementation of recommendations from Standing Committees on Finance, covering cyber security, white-collar crime, and demands for grants of finance ministry departments. Tourism Minister Suresh Gopi will also provide updates on the implementation of recommendations from the Standing Committee on Transport, Tourism, and Culture.

The supplementary grants and associated statements cover key sectors such as social welfare, education, tourism, skill development, environment, corporate governance, and consumer affairs , reflecting the government’s additional financial priorities for FY26.
