FM Sitharaman engages with PM internship interns in Karnataka

Union Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs, Nirmala Sitharaman, interacted with over 60 interns of the Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS) at Hampi, Karnataka, highlighting the government’s commitment to youth skill development and employability. The session also included representatives from leading partner companies, including Infosys, IBM, TCS, Bharat Electronics Limited, Honeywell Technology Solutions, HAL, NMDC, and Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals.

During the interaction, the Minister engaged with the interns, discussing their motivations for joining the scheme, their learning experiences, and skill development during their internships. She offered guidance and words of encouragement for their professional journeys, emphasizing the importance of adaptability in today’s evolving workplace. Interns with exceptional performance have already been absorbed into full-time roles by their respective companies, a development praised by the Minister.

Sitharaman lauded the interns for their dedication and highlighted the role of PMIS in holistic development, noting that participants are not only learning core professional skills but also improving abilities like communication and problem-solving.

Gouri H, an Embedded Engineer Intern at Honeywell Technology Solutions from Kerala, shared how PMIS helped her pursue her dream career despite limited opportunities. The Minister praised Gouri’s perseverance, calling her journey a true embodiment of the scheme’s spirit.

Launched as part of the Prime Minister’s five-year youth initiative, PMIS targets Indian youth aged 21–24 who are neither enrolled in academics nor employed. The scheme aims to provide over one crore paid internships across top companies nationwide, enhancing employability and professional exposure during its pilot phase.
