The Palm Beach International Airport in Florida is set to be renamed as “President Donald J. Trump International Airport” , following a state-backed decision that reflects both political support and the former president’s strong ties to the region.

The announcement was highlighted by Eric Trump, son of Donald Trump, who credited Florida leaders for enabling the move. According to CBS News, the renaming comes after Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed a state bill approving the change.

The decision underscores Trump’s close association with Palm Beach , where his Mar-a-Lago estate is located, making him a prominent figure in the area. Observers note that such renaming efforts often carry symbolic and political significance , especially in regions where a leader enjoys strong public and political backing.

The new name is expected to take effect from July 1 , marking a formal transition in airport identity. However, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) clarified that airport naming is a local matter , and it does not approve such changes. Its role is limited to administrative updates, including revising navigational charts and official databases.

In a related development, the Trump Organization filed a trademark application for the airport’s new name in February with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. The application covers a range of travel-related merchandise, such as luggage and airport-related items. The organisation stated that the move was prompted by the proposed renaming and emphasised that no financial benefit or royalty would accrue to the Trump family.

Naming airports after prominent leaders is not uncommon in the United States, with examples including John F. Kennedy International Airport and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. The latest move is seen as part of that broader tradition, while also reflecting Florida’s political alignment and support for Trump.
