Five Nepalese nationals arrested for robbery at retired Army captain’s home in Hyderabad

Hyderabad police on Monday arrested five Nepalese nationals for their involvement in last month’s violent robbery at the residence of a retired Army captain. The group is part of a 13-member gang that allegedly broke into the officer’s home and looted gold and cash after assaulting him.

According to Task Force DCP Gaikwad Vaibhav Raghunath, the incident took place during the night of November 15-16. The suspects tied up the retired officer inside his home, attacked him, and escaped with gold ornaments weighing about 23 tolas and ₹95,000 in cash.

During the latest arrests, police recovered 73.35 grams of gold, 22.90 grams of silver jewellery, ₹43,050 in cash, and five mobile phones.

Police revealed that four of the arrested suspects were working as security guards. The investigation also showed that the entire plot began when the retired officer approached an agency to hire domestic help. Two members of the gang, posing as a Nepalese couple, were sent to his house as a maid and cook. They worked there from October, studying the surroundings and planning the burglary.

The gang later met at a rented room in Tolichowki and finalized the plan. On the night of the robbery, they entered the house, tied the officer’s hands and feet, assaulted him, removed the jewellery he was wearing, and took additional valuables before fleeing.

Police said the stolen property was shared among the group members soon after the crime. While five have now been arrested, eight more Nepalese suspects are still absconding, and a search is underway.
