Five Bihar Districts Face Flood-Like Situation as Rivers Cross Danger Marks

Five districts in Bihar are facing a flood-like situation as several rivers crossed their danger marks following incessant rainfall in Nepal and neighbouring Jharkhand, officials said on Friday.

The Ganga, Gandak, Kosi, Burhi Gandak, Bagmati, Punpun and Ghaghra rivers have recorded rising water levels, inundating several low-lying areas across the state. Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary is scheduled to conduct an aerial survey of the affected regions and review ongoing relief and rescue operations later in the day.

Patna, Bhojpur, Vaishali, Lakhisarai and Bhagalpur are among the districts witnessing significant impact. Several low-lying areas in Muzaffarpur, Khagaria, Purnea, Madhepura, Saharsa and Katihar have also experienced flood-like conditions.

According to the Water Resources Department, almost all major rivers in Bihar are maintaining a rising trend, raising concerns over further deterioration in vulnerable areas.

In Patna, the Ganga was flowing above the danger level at Digha Ghat, Gandhi Ghat, Hathidah and Maner. The river has also crossed the danger mark in Buxar, Munger, Bhagalpur and Kahalgaon.

The Punpun river was above its danger level at Sripalpur and Punpun in Patna, while the Ghaghra river crossed the danger mark at Darauli in Siwan district.

A senior Water Resources Department official said rising levels of the Ganga and Kosi, following torrential rainfall, had affected residents in low-lying areas.

Authorities said no casualties have been reported so far, while residents living in vulnerable floodplain areas have been shifted to safer locations.

Officials have been directed to maintain close surveillance of embankments and vulnerable points and immediately report any unusual developments to senior authorities. The administration is also monitoring river levels and the situation in affected areas as rainfall continues in upstream regions.
