Fit India Sundays on Cycle turns Hyderabad into a Carnival of Sports and Fitness
Hyderabad turned into a celebration of movement and energy on January 18 , as the 57th edition of Fit India “Sundays on Cycle” transformed Gachibowli Stadium into a vibrant fitness carnival . What began as a cycling drive quickly unfolded into a colourful community festival, drawing over 1,000 citizens, children , youth, senior citizens, athletes and families all coming together with one message: fitness can be joyful, inclusive and fun.
Organised by the Union Sports Ministry in association with the Sports Authority of India (SAI) , the event reflected the growing national spirit behind Fit India Sundays on Cycle. Launched in December 2024 under Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya , the initiative has steadily expanded into a true “jan andolan” , with participation from over 22 lakh people across 2 lakh+ locations . Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call “Fitness Ka Dose, Aadha Ghanta Roz” the campaign encourages citizens to adopt active lifestyles while promoting cycling as a low-carbon, environment-friendly habit .
The Hyderabad edition gained star power with the presence of Union Minister of Coal and Mines Shri G. Kishan Reddy , who stressed that modern lifestyles, unhealthy diets and reduced physical activity are driving obesity and mental stress . He urged citizens to consciously bring movement back into their daily routines, highlighting that India’s progress depends on the strength and health of its youth.
Adding inspiration to the occasion were sports legends and champions including badminton icon Pullela Gopichand , Arjuna Award-winning shooter Esha Singh , and Paralympic bronze medallist Deepthi Jeevanji , along with senior officials such as Cyberabad Police Commissioner Dr. M. Ramesh Reddy, IPS . Many Fit India ambassadors, influencers and cycling leaders were also honoured for spreading the fitness message across communities.
But the real magic was in the atmosphere. Alongside the cycling rally flagged off by Deepthi Jeevanji and Esha Singh participants enjoyed Zumba cooldown sessions, yoga, rope skipping , and energetic cultural-sport performances like Mallakhamb and Kudo martial arts . Music, cheers and interactive activity zones kept the stadium buzzing long after the cyclists returned.
More than an event, Fit India Sundays on Cycle in Hyderabad felt like a city-wide promise a reminder that fitness isn’t a burden, but a celebration when communities move together.
