Fire Department Conducts Mock Drill at Vijayawada PVP Mall
The Fire Services Department conducted a large-scale awareness programme at PVP Mall in Vijayawada, aiming to educate the public on emergency response during fire incidents and ways to reduce loss of life and property damage .
Organised as part of a statewide fire safety campaign, the mock drill attracted a large number of visitors. Fire officials demonstrated how to respond calmly during sudden fire outbreaks and avoid panic while following proper evacuation procedures .
The programme is part of the state government’s initiative titled “Safe School – Safe Hospital – Fire Safety Society” , which focuses on strengthening fire safety compliance in public institutions such as schools, hospitals, and commercial establishments. Authorities emphasized the importance of not just enforcement, but also hands-on training for the public and staff to handle emergencies effectively.
Fire personnel carried out live demonstrations on rescue operations , including evacuating individuals from upper floors and navigating smoke-filled environments. They also trained participants on the correct use of fire extinguishers and other safety equipment, with active participation from mall staff and visitors.
Fire Safety Additional Director Gyan Sundaram pointed out that most fire accidents are caused by human negligence , particularly due to unsafe handling of gas systems and electrical short circuits. He stressed the need for greater awareness and caution to prevent such incidents.
Officials also advised people to avoid using elevators during fire emergencies and instead use staircases for safe evacuation. They urged immediate reporting of fire incidents and highlighted the importance of maintaining functional fire safety systems in all buildings.
The event witnessed participation from fire department officials, mall representatives, and the general public.
