FIR registered after JJD chief Tej Pratap claims threat to life

After failing to secure a single seat in the recent Bihar Assembly elections, Janshakti Janta Dal (JJD) chief Tej Pratap Yadav now finds himself grappling with serious security concerns, raising the question of the threats he is receiving.

The former Bihar minister has filed a police complaint alleging that his party’s expelled national spokesperson, Santosh Renu Yadav , threatened to kill him . Following the complaint, an FIR has been registered at the Sachivalay police station, and the matter is currently under investigation.

Tej Pratap has also written to Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Samrat Choudhary, seeking enhanced security. Confirming receipt of the letter, Choudhary told PTI on Saturday that the matter was being examined.

According to the police complaint, Tej Pratap alleged that after Santosh Renu Yadav was expelled from the JJD earlier this month, he began abusing and issuing death threats against him on social media platforms. The JJD chief claimed that the threats were made repeatedly and were serious enough to prompt him to approach both the police and the Home Department.

In his complaint, Tej Pratap further alleged that Renu, who had earlier been appointed the party’s national spokesperson, later began acting against the party’s ideology. He also accused Renu of taking money from party workers and others by promising jobs and favors. The party expelled Renu on December 14 following these allegations.

Despite repeated attempts, Santosh Renu Yadav could not be contacted for his response.

Tej Pratap Yadav, the elder son of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Lalu Prasad, has remained in the political spotlight following his expulsion from the RJD earlier this year. On May 25, Lalu Prasad expelled him from the party for six years, a day after Tej Pratap reportedly confessed on social media to being “in a relationship” with a woman named Anushka. He later deleted the post, claiming his Facebook account had been hacked.

Lalu Prasad subsequently disowned Tej Pratap, citing his “irresponsible behaviour.” In the days following his expulsion, Tej Pratap alleged a conspiracy to create a rift between him and his younger brother, Tejashwi Yadav, blaming unnamed “traitors” in a series of posts on X.

As investigations into the alleged threats continue, the latest developments add to the political and personal challenges facing Tej Pratap in the aftermath of his electoral defeat.
