FIR filed after protest over interfaith romance in ‘Yadav Ji Ki Love Story’ in UP

An FIR has been lodged against the producer, director, and lead actors of the upcoming Hindi film Yadav Ji Ki Love Story after members of the Yadav community staged a protest, claiming the film could hurt community sentiments and disturb social harmony .

The movie, a small-budget romantic drama produced under Om Thakuraani Production, tells the story of a romantic relationship between a woman from the Yadav community and a Muslim man . Scheduled for release on February 27 , it stars Pragati Tiwari, Vishal Mohan, Suvinder Vicky, Mansi Rawat, and Deepak Kapoor.

Protesters objected to both the title and content of the film , alleging that it misrepresents the Yadav community and could spread misunderstanding or hostility. They argued that portraying an interfaith romance involving a community woman in this way is derogatory and could impact the dignity of women and the community at large.

According to the FIR filed at Dhanari police station, a case was registered under Section 353 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for circulating false information or news that could incite hatred between groups. The FIR names producer Sandeep Tomar, director Ankit Bhadana, actress Pragati Tiwari, and actor Vishal Mohan.

People from several villages gathered near Khirni crossing on Ganwa Road in Sambhal tehsil, burning posters and submitting a memorandum to the district magistrate, demanding an immediate ban on the movie.

Speaking to reporters, Devendra Yadav said, "Our country is a symbol of brotherhood. Such a movie will disturb communal harmony and create unrest. If any film harms the dignity of our sisters and daughters , anger is natural." Another protester, Brijesh Yadav, added that they plan to pursue legal action in the High Court and Supreme Court, warning of bigger agitations if the release is not stopped.

Jeet Pal Yadav further alleged that the film portrays incidents that never happened and unfairly targets the community. "Targeting any community is not right. This film spreads a wrong message and could inflame communal tensions ," he said.

Police officials noted that the protest remained peaceful, and no untoward incidents were reported. While the agitation centers on community sentiments and dignity, some analysts see a communal angle due to the interfaith nature of the romance, which has sparked concerns about potential social unrest.

The controversy follows a similar case earlier this month over the Netflix film Ghooskhor Pandat , whose title was deemed offensive and defamatory toward a particular community, prompting the producers to rename the film.
