Father arrested in UP for beating 12-year-old daughter to death over candy theft

A man in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr district has been arrested for allegedly beating his 12-year-old daughter to death after accusing her of stealing a packet of candy from a grocery store, police said.

The incident occurred in Ratanpur village in Bulandshahr district , where the accused, Pushpendra alias Pappu Sharma , allegedly assaulted the child with a stick after a local shopkeeper complained that she had taken a packet of candy without paying for it. Police said the man became enraged after the shopkeeper’s complaint and allegedly attacked the girl at home.

According to officials, the victim’s mother, Aarti Devi , filed a complaint with police on March 27 , alleging that her husband had repeatedly beaten the girl with a stick , which ultimately led to her death.

Reports also said that Aarti was injured while trying to intervene and stop the assault, highlighting the severity of the attack inside the house.

Based on the complaint, police registered a First Information Report (FIR) at Narora police station and launched an investigation into the case. The accused was arrested on Sunday , officials said.

Station House Officer Ganga Prasad Arya said that the stick allegedly used in the assault has been recovered after the accused led police to it. Authorities added that further investigation is underway to determine the full sequence of events.

The case has sparked shock and outrage locally, with police examining all circumstances surrounding the child’s death.
