Andhra Pradesh is rolling out a comprehensive set of reforms aimed at transforming agriculture into a more profitable , efficient, and technology-driven sector while improving farmer incomes and consumer access .

A key initiative is the proposed “Farm-to-Home” model, which seeks to eliminate intermediaries and create a direct supply chain from farmers to consumers. The system, developed with Farmer Producer Organisations, is intended to ensure better price realisation for farmers and affordable, fresh produce for households, especially in fruits and vegetables.

The state is also prioritising climate resilience and sustainable farming. In view of possible El Niño impacts, officials have been asked to prepare region-specific crop plans and promote low-water and natural farming practices. The government is simultaneously working to ensure minimum support prices to safeguard farmers from both climate and market risks.

To address global concerns over fertiliser availability, Andhra Pradesh is encouraging a gradual shift towards eco-friendly agriculture by reducing chemical inputs and promoting micro-nutrient usage. Natural farming is being strengthened through national programmes, along with dedicated market spaces for organic produce in Rythu Bazars and private outlets.

On the infrastructure and innovation front, the government is planning major projects such as a “Cocoa City” in East Godavari to boost horticulture processing and the Indian School of Agriculture in Madanapalle, which will serve as a hub for research and advanced learning in agriculture.

Rayalaseema is set to be developed into a major horticulture hub under a ₹40,000 crore initiative, complemented by significant private investment. The plan focuses on strengthening irrigation, logistics, storage, and cold chain systems to reduce post-harvest losses and enhance farmer profitability, particularly for fruit growers.

Technology adoption is being expanded through cluster-based farm mechanisation, wider use of drones, and enhanced digital services via the “Rythu App.” Improved irrigation management in the Krishna and Godavari delta regions is also part of the strategy.

In the aquaculture sector, the government has extended electricity subsidy support to thousands of additional connections, strengthening coastal livelihoods and improving competitiveness through expanded aquaculture zones and better quality standards.

Agricultural marketing is also being modernised through the digitisation of Rythu Bazars across multiple constituencies, supported by digital platforms, along with the expedited establishment of a central food testing laboratory in Pulivendula to improve food safety and quality control.

Overall, these initiatives mark a coordinated push to modernise agriculture in Andhra Pradesh by combining market reforms, sustainability, infrastructure development, and digital innovation.
