Liverpool and Chelsea, two of the Premier League’s biggest powerhouses, are facing a worrying slide, from title ambitions to a tense fight for Champions League qualification .

Liverpool’s struggles deepened with a 2-1 defeat to Brighton at Brighton, marking their third straight winless game and a concerning 10th loss of the season . Veteran striker Danny Welbeck scored twice, punishing a shaky Liverpool defence. Milos Kerkez briefly revived hope with an equaliser, but Welbeck’s second goal sealed another damaging setback.

Under manager Arne Slot, Liverpool have managed just one point from their last three matches and are clinging to fifth place . Injuries have worsened their situation, with key players like Mohamed Salah and Alisson Becker sidelined, while Hugo Ekitike’s early exit added to the growing list of concerns. For a squad strengthened with a record $570 million investment, the dip has been alarming.

Chelsea’s situation is even more troubling. A heavy 3-0 defeat to Everton capped a disastrous week, following their crushing exit from Europe at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain. Goals from Beto and Iliman Ndiaye exposed a side lacking energy and cohesion .

Manager Liam Rosenior described it as the team’s most disappointing performance , with Chelsea managing just one win in six league matches . They now sit sixth, just behind Liverpool.

Meanwhile, Everton have surged into contention, sitting within touching distance of the top five and intensifying the race.

With the season nearing its end, both Liverpool and Chelsea are under pressure. The battle is no longer about dominance, it is about staying in the top five and securing a place in Europe’s elite competition.
