Fake gangster nabbed over ₹10-cr land grab attempt in Delhi's Rohini

The Delhi Police have arrested a 32‑year‑old man for allegedly impersonating a member of the Himanshu Bhau gang and attempting to extort a property worth around Rs 10 crore from a businessman in northwest Delhi, officials said on Thursday. The arrest is part of a broader crackdown on organised criminal networks that have been exploiting fear, intimidation and impersonation to terrorise entrepreneurs and property owners in the capital.

The accused, identified as Vikas, also known as Vicky , a resident of Narela, was taken into custody on 4 February following an investigation by the police. According to police officials, the case originated from a complaint filed on 26 November 2025 by Rajat Gupta , a resident of Ashok Vihar, who alleged that an unknown person had been making threatening calls from international numbers while claiming to be associated with the Himanshu Bhau gang. The caller allegedly demanded that Gupta transfer ownership of a valuable plot in Sector 23, Rohini , estimated at around Rs 10 crore, to intimidate him.

Police said the Rohini property was acquired in June 2022 in the names of Gupta’s wife, Megha Goel , and his sister‑in‑law, Nidhi , from one Parveen Kumar . Gupta submitted digital audio recordings and other electronic evidence alleging criminal intimidation and extortion, triggering a formal police probe. During the investigation, officers discovered that a related case had already been filed at Begumpur Police Station, Rohini in 2025 by a Haryana‑based complainant over the same plot, leading investigators to conclude that the threatening calls were intended to pressure the complainant.

Police said they identified Vikas’s involvement after tracking the origin of the calls and other digital traces, and arrested him from his native village in Narela . During interrogation, Vikas allegedly disclosed that he was engaged in dealings related to disputed properties. He told investigators that in 2022 two of his associates had introduced him to a transaction involving the Rohini plot, which was subsequently registered in the names of Gupta’s family members.

Officials allege that when efforts to take control of the property failed and Gupta refused to transfer it, Vikas hatched a conspiracy to intimidate him by posing as a gang member. Police said he is also suspected to have acted in collusion with an associate who allegedly arranged for others to impersonate gang members and issue the threats. A hunt for additional accomplices believed to be connected with the operation is ongoing.

The case comes against the backdrop of an expanding pattern of extortion and gang‑related intimidation in the National Capital Region. Delhi Police have identified multiple organised crime syndicates, including the Himanshu Bhau gang, among others, as part of efforts to curb a growing menace of extortion calls, shootings and threats to businessmen and property owners.
