Fake District Expansion Map Triggers Confusion in Andhra Pradesh, Officials Clarify
The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority has dismissed as false a viral claim on social media that Andhra Pradesh now has 28 districts. The agency clarified that a map circulating online with its name and logo is fabricated and has no official backing.
The misleading image, widely shared on platforms such as WhatsApp and Facebook, shows places like Markapuram and Polavaram as newly created districts, pushing the total count to 28. The use of the APSDMA logo lent credibility to the claim, causing confusion among the public.
Responding to the issue, officials stated that APSDMA does not prepare or release maps related to district reorganisation. They termed the incident a deliberate attempt to spread misinformation and mislead citizens.
The authority reiterated that any decision on forming new districts or altering boundaries lies solely with the state government and is announced only through official gazette notifications.
Urging caution, APSDMA advised people not to trust or share unverified content. It also called on media organisations to verify information before publication. Officials warned that strict action could be taken against those responsible for spreading false information.
