Faizan Anwar clinches WBA Intercontinental title, remains unbeaten

Indian boxer Faizan Anwar made history by winning the WBA Intercontinental Championship, defeating Russian contender Khuseyn Baysangurov via split decision in a gripping 10-round professional bout at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Stadium.

The 24-year-old from Kolkata showcased a composed and tactical performance, dominating much of the fight with sharp combinations and relentless pressure. Baysangurov, who entered the match with an impressive record of 25 wins and just one loss, had been unbeaten since 2018. Faizan’s precise punches visibly damaged Baysangurov’s left side, proving his effectiveness round after round.

The contest was part of a major professional boxing event organised by IBA Professional, featuring fighters from several countries. Faizan’s ability to control the tempo and remain composed against a seasoned opponent secured him the coveted WBA Intercontinental belt.

With this victory, Faizan now boasts an unbeaten professional record of 21 wins from 21 bouts, marking a significant milestone for Indian boxing on the international stage.

Faizan moved to Dubai at the age of 18 to pursue a professional career and currently trains at the Round 10 Boxing Club, managed by AAM Seddiqi Boxing. His journey began in Kolkata, inspired by his uncle Mujtaba Kamal, a former Indian boxer who represented the country for 15 years and continues to promote professional boxing in India.

The WBA Intercontinental Championship is seen as a stepping stone to higher-level title fights, and Faizan’s triumph is expected to boost the visibility of Indian professional boxing worldwide.
