Explosion rocks Peru nightclub, 33 injured including teenagers
A powerful explosion at a nightclub in northern Peru injured at least 33 people, including teenagers , triggering panic among partygoers and raising fresh concerns over rising violence in the region.
The blast occurred in the early hours of Saturday at the Dali nightclub in the coastal city of Trujillo , located along Peru’s northern shoreline. According to local authorities, the explosion ripped through the venue shortly before dawn when the club was still crowded with patrons.
Emergency services rushed to the scene and transported the injured to nearby hospitals. Health officials confirmed that at least five victims are in critical condition , with several suffering severe injuries including amputations and shrapnel wounds . Many of the injured are currently undergoing emergency surgeries.
Among those injured were three minors, one 16 year old and two 17 year olds , highlighting the alarming impact of the blast on young people present at the venue.
Authorities said that no deaths had been officially confirmed at the time of reporting , though officials warned that the number of injured or fatalities could change as some victims remain in critical condition.
Investigators have launched a probe into the incident, but no group has yet claimed responsibility and the exact motive remains unclear . Officials suspect the attack could be linked to criminal gangs involved in extortion and organised crime , which have been responsible for several violent incidents in the region in recent years.
The city of Trujillo, located in the La Libertad region , has witnessed a growing wave of violence and criminal activity. The latest explosion comes less than a month after another blast in the same city damaged about 25 homes , though that incident caused no injuries or deaths.
Authorities are now examining whether the two explosions could be connected as police continue collecting evidence from the nightclub and surrounding areas.
