Explosion at scrap dealer’s house in Assam’s Jorhat kills two, injures two

Two persons, including an eight-year-old girl , were killed and two others critically injured in an explosion at a residential area in Assam’s Jorhat district on Saturday evening, police said.

The blast occurred at a rented house belonging to a scrap dealer in Rajamaidam New Colony, creating panic in the neighbourhood as residents rushed out after hearing the loud explosion. Police officials said the impact of the blast was severe, and two people died on the spot.

The deceased have been identified as Noor Mohammad (40) and Naina Begum (8) . Two others who suffered serious injuries in the explosion were rushed to Jorhat Medical College and Hospital , where they are currently undergoing treatment. Hospital sources said their condition remains critical.

Jorhat Senior Superintendent of Police Shubrajit Borah said the exact cause of the explosion is yet to be determined. A forensic team was sent to the site soon after the incident to examine the area and collect evidence that could help identify what triggered the blast.

As part of the investigation, six persons have been picked up for questioning , and police said further inquiries are underway to establish the circumstances behind the incident.

Authorities have secured the area while investigators continue to analyse the evidence. Officials said more details are expected once the forensic examination is completed.
