Expedition 33 Wins Nine Awards at The Game Awards 2025, Rolls Out Free Content Update

The award-winning turn-based role-playing game Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has been updated with a free major “Thank You” update following its historic success at The Game Awards 2025. The game was honoured with nine awards, including Game of the Year , making it one of the most celebrated titles of the year.

The update was announced by developer Sandfall Interactive while accepting the Game of the Year award. It has been described as a gesture of gratitude to the gaming community for their support. In a statement, the studio said, “To celebrate this incredible year, and as a sincere ‘Thank You’ to the community, we are rolling out the free major ‘Thank You’ Update, adding new content and a few fun surprises.”

The update introduces a new playable environment, allowing players to embark on additional adventures within the game world. Challenging boss fights have been added to the Endless Tower, specifically designed for late-game players seeking tougher gameplay. New costumes, weapons, and Luminas have also been included, enhancing character customization options.

Several quality-of-life improvements have been implemented, alongside localization support in eight additional languages: Czech, Ukrainian, Latin American Spanish, Turkish, Vietnamese, Thai, and Indonesian bringing the total number of supported languages to 19. The game’s performance has been enhanced across platforms, including handheld devices such as the Steam Deck and ROG Xbox Ally. A new photo mode with multiple settings has been introduced to enrich the visual experience.

In addition to in-game content, new music tracks composed by Game Award-winning musician Lorien Testard have been released on digital streaming platforms. Following the award ceremony, Expedition 33 has been made available at a 20% discount across all storefronts.

At The Game Awards 2025, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was nominated in 10 categories and won nine, including Best Narrative, Best Game Direction, Best Score and Music, Best Art Direction, Best Performance, Best RPG, Best Independent Game, and Best Debut Indie Game . It was only surpassed by EA’s Battlefield 6 in the Best Audio Design category.

This update and continued recognition demonstrate how developers are increasingly rewarding player engagement while expanding accessibility and gameplay quality for a broader audience.
