Every Poor Family to Own a Home by 2029: CM Chandrababu

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Monday said his government is committed to ensuring that every poor family in the state has a livable home by 2029 . Addressing a public meeting in Sullurupeta, he launched a statewide housewarming programme for over 2.5 lakh houses .

Paying tribute to N. T. Rama Rao, the Chief Minister said welfare of the underprivileged continues to guide the government’s policies.

Highlighting progress, Naidu said around 5.5 lakh houses have been completed in the past 20 to 21 months . Of these, 4.52 lakh houses were built under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban), while about 78,000 houses were constructed in rural areas. He added that housing projects under TIDCO Housing are being developed with improved infrastructure, with over 15,659 houses handed over in Tirupati district.

Referring to the previous YSR Congress Party government, Naidu alleged that progress in the housing sector slowed between 2019 to 2024 . However, available reports indicate that the earlier administration largely focused on distributing house-site pattas, with several housing projects particularly TIDCO units experiencing delays or remaining incomplete. Claims regarding exact construction figures and fund diversion remain unverified.

Outlining the roadmap ahead, the Chief Minister said the state needs to construct about 17 lakh houses to meet the 2029 target. He announced plans to complete 2 lakh houses by June and 1.6 lakh houses by September, while construction of another 4.5 lakh houses will begin soon. He also said the government is working toward extending piped natural gas connections to households.

Naidu reiterated that Amaravati will be developed into a world-class capital, surpassing Hyderabad and Chennai. He also called for greater participation of women in politics and directed officials to safeguard the interests of fishermen amid issues between Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

The Chief Minister asserted that the government will continue its efforts until every poor family in the state secures a permanent home.
