Every poor family to have a permanent house by 2029 says CM Chandrababu

The Andhra Pradesh government’s flagship housing programme for the poor reached another major milestone on Wednesday. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu inaugurated the statewide distribution of three lakh completed houses to beneficiaries.

The main event took place at Devagudipalli village in Rayachoti mandal of Annamayya district, where the Chief Minister personally handed over house documents, keys, and essential kits including LED bulbs to several beneficiaries. Simultaneously, housewarming ceremonies were held across the state through video conferencing.

Speaking on the occasion, Chandrababu said that the coalition government had fulfilled yet another key promise from its election manifesto. “In just 17 months, we have completed construction of three lakh houses and handed them over to the poor. A home is not merely an asset - it represents safety and self-respect,” he said.

He reiterated that by 2029, every poor family in the state would have a permanent house, and added that his government was continuing the mission initiated by the late N. T. Rama Rao to provide housing for the poor.

Focus on welfare and continuity

Chandrababu pointed out that the previous Telugu Desam government (after 2014) had already completed eight lakh houses across various sectors. In contrast, he criticized the former administration for cancelling 4.73 lakh sanctioned houses and failing to clear dues worth crores to 2.73 lakh beneficiaries. The coalition government, he said, has now cleared those pending bills and resumed stalled projects.

He assured that the government was not only completing the pending houses but also accelerating construction of new ones to meet the target.

Empowering women and promoting industry

The Chief Minister said the government is committed to women’s economic empowerment by creating opportunities in the industrial sector. “Our aim is to see at least one entrepreneur in every family,” he said. He cited the recent foundation laying for 97 new industries in Prakasam district as a sign of growing industrial development.

Chandrababu also announced plans to encourage installation of rooftop solar panels on government-built homes, promoting renewable energy in the state. In the agriculture sector, he said that farmers in Rayalaseema are being offered up to 90% subsidy on drip irrigation systems to improve water efficiency.

Assuring water projects and jobs

Highlighting the importance of river-linking projects, the Chief Minister said providing irrigation water to every acre of land was his life’s goal. He added that the government was taking steps to fill village tanks, improve groundwater levels, and ensure there were no delays in drinking water projects.

Chandrababu also promised that upcoming investments would create local employment opportunities, allowing educated youth to find jobs within their own districts.

The event was attended by several ministers, legislators, officials, and thousands of beneficiaries.

According to official data, the 3,00,192 houses distributed include:

• 2,28,034 under PM Awas Yojana - BLC (Beneficiary Led Construction)

• 65,292 under PMAY-Gramin

• 6,866 under PMAY-Janman Scheme

All of these housewarming ceremonies were held simultaneously across the state on Wednesday.
