Even 'Toxic' can't beat the real toxicity Middle east conflict delays Yash's film
The release of Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups , starring Yash , has been postponed to June 4 amid rising geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, the makers announced.
The film, directed by Geetu Mohandas , was originally scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on March 19. Production banners KVN Productions and Monster Mind Creations shared the update through a joint statement on social media.
The makers said the decision was taken in view of the “current uncertainty, especially in the Middle East”, which could affect the film’s global rollout. They added that the project was conceived with the vision of reaching a wide international audience, making it important to ensure favourable conditions for release.
Tensions in the region have escalated following a coordinated offensive by the United States and Israel against Iran on February 28, with Tehran reportedly responding with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, US military installations across the Gulf, and Dubai.
The Gulf region is a crucial overseas market for Indian cinema, often contributing significantly to box office collections for big-budget, multi-language releases.
Set in Goa between the early 1940s and the 1970s, “Toxic” is billed as an action-thriller saga. Yash plays the role of Raya, a powerful gangster navigating the underworld during the period.
The new release date also helps the film avoid a potential box-office clash with Dhurandhar , which had also been slated for release on March 19.
“Toxic” marks Yash’s first project since the blockbuster success of KGF: Chapter 2 . The film also stars Nayanthara , Kiara Advani , Huma Qureshi , Rukmini Vasanth , and Tara Sutaria .
Shot simultaneously in Kannada and English, the film will also be released in dubbed versions in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam as part of its global rollout.
