Malkajgiri MP Etala Rajender has expressed deep anguish over the brutal murder of five-year-old Areliya (Monu) at Villa Arcade, a gated community in Kowkoor, Medchal–Malkajgiri district. Visiting the bereaved family, he conveyed his heartfelt condolences and demanded stringent legal action to ensure the accused receives severe punishment.

Speaking to the media, Rajender alleged that a Bihar native who had previously worked as a watchman at the residential community kidnapped the child and demanded Rs. 20 lakh as ransom from her grandfather. Despite the family agreeing to pay the money, the accused allegedly murdered the girl and dumped her body in a water tank. Rajender said the community management had earlier removed the watchman from his job over concerns about his conduct.

Describing the incident as deeply disturbing, the MP urged the government to take effective measures to prevent such crimes and protect children from similar tragedies.

Rajender also called for stricter regulations governing the recruitment of migrant workers in Hyderabad. Noting that thousands of people arrive in the city from different states seeking employment as labourers, drivers and security guards, he stressed the need to hold manpower agencies accountable for the workers they recruit.

He said agencies should go beyond collecting commissions and ensure proper identity verification, background checks and monitoring of conduct. He cautioned that criminal activities allegedly involving some individuals could create difficulties for genuine migrant workers who come to the city to earn an honest livelihood.

The MP further urged the Telangana government to intensify its crackdown on drugs, cannabis and other intoxicating substances. He called for a comprehensive investigation into allegations of their easy availability at night and claims of drug consumption at farmhouses.

Expressing confidence in the capabilities of the Telangana Police, Rajender said effective enforcement could significantly curb the drug menace. He appealed to the Chief Minister to personally monitor the issue, strengthen preventive measures and ensure that the accused in the child’s murder case faces swift and stringent punishment under the law.
