Enterprise AI focus strengthened through Reliance–Meta collaboration
A significant step toward strengthening India’s artificial intelligence (AI) ecosystem was taken on Saturday when it was announced by Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) that its subsidiary, Reliance Intelligence Limited, had entered into a joint venture with Facebook Overseas, Inc., a wholly owned arm of Meta Platforms, Inc.
The new entity, Reliance Enterprise Intelligence Limited (REIL), has been set up to develop, market, and distribute enterprise AI services, according to the statement issued by the company.
An initial investment of approximately ₹855 crore has been committed jointly by both partners, marking one of the largest collaborations between two digital powerhouses. “Reliance Intelligence will invest an amount of ₹2 crore towards initial subscription of 20,00,000 equity shares of ₹10 each,” the company said.
A 70:30 Ownership Structure Established :
It was specified under the amended and restated joint venture agreement that Reliance Intelligence Limited would hold a 70% stake, while Facebook Overseas would own the remaining 30% in REIL. The investment has been planned to be made in phased tranches over the next two years to support product development and infrastructure expansion.
It was also clarified by RIL that the transaction did not fall under the category of related party transactions, and no promoters or group companies were involved directly or indirectly. Furthermore, it was confirmed that no governmental or regulatory approvals were required for the incorporation. “The transaction does not fall within related party transactions and none of the Company’s promoter/ promoter group/ group companies have any interest in the above transaction,” RIL added.
The company’s intimation regarding the incorporation was received from Reliance Intelligence on October 24, 2025, at 1:19 p.m. (IST).
Earlier disclosures had been made on August 29 and September 10, 2025, regarding the upcoming partnership.
Enterprise AI to be Developed for Business Transformation :
Through REIL, AI-powered enterprise solutions are planned to be developed to help businesses automate operations, enhance decision-making, and improve customer engagement. The company’s services are expected to be targeted initially at sectors such as retail, telecom, finance, and manufacturing.
The headquarters of REIL has been planned to be located in Mumbai, with R&D centers to be established in Bengaluru and Hyderabad, which are considered India’s leading AI hubs.
Reliance’s data infrastructure, cloud facilities, and domestic market reach are expected to be leveraged, while Meta’s advanced AI models and cloud analytics tools will be utilized for technology development. “Through REIL, both companies aim to unlock new opportunities for businesses by bringing together AI-driven intelligence, scale, and digital innovation,” a spokesperson from Reliance Intelligence stated.
Management and Operational Timeline Finalized :
A joint board structure has been planned for the company’s governance, with representatives from both Reliance and Meta. A senior executive from Jio Platforms is expected to be appointed as CEO, while Meta’s nominee will head AI Research and Development.
Pilot AI product deployments are expected to commence by mid-2026, and commercial operations are likely to begin by early 2027, following successful testing and validation.
India’s AI Ecosystem Expected to Benefit* *:
The formation of REIL has been viewed by analysts as a strong indicator of India’s growing role in global AI development. By combining Reliance’s scale with Meta’s technological expertise, the venture is expected to redefine enterprise AI adoption in India and emerging markets.
More than 3,000 highly skilled jobs are anticipated to be created in AI engineering, cloud computing, and data science as a result of this partnership. “This partnership represents the convergence of industrial scale and digital intelligence,” an industry analyst observed. “Reliance brings deep market understanding and infrastructure, while Meta brings global AI capabilities; it's a powerful combination for enterprise transformation.”
A Continued Partnership Strengthened :
The formation of REIL has been seen as an extension of the collaboration between Reliance and Meta, which had begun in 2020 when Meta invested in Jio Platforms. That partnership had facilitated the integration of WhatsApp with JioMart, among other digital initiatives.
Now, through REIL, the focus has been shifted toward enterprise-level innovation, positioning both companies for a long-term presence in India’s AI-driven business ecosystem. “The formation of REIL highlights our shared commitment to building intelligent, scalable, and inclusive digital ecosystems for enterprises,” a Meta spokesperson said.
As AI continues to reshape global business operations, Reliance and Meta’s joint venture is expected to place India at the center of enterprise intelligence innovation.
