National Conference president Farooq Abdullah, 88, has said “enough is enough” , urging Pakistan to end the “cycle of violence” in Jammu and Kashmir and shift towards peace, while stressing that continued unrest serves no purpose.

Speaking to PTI, the three-time former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister said Pakistan should “call it a day” and stop violence, arguing that the situation is sustained by its refusal to accept Jammu and Kashmir as an “integral part of India” .

Abdullah said terrorism has largely declined but occasional attacks still disrupt normal life. Referring to the 22 April 2025 Pahalgam terror attack , in which 26 civilians (25 tourists and 1 local pony operator) were killed by Lashkar-e-Taiba militants, he called it a “deep setback” to peace efforts and tourism recovery in the region.

He said the attack, one of the deadliest in recent years, also triggered strong public outrage across the Valley, where people spontaneously came out to protest. According to him, the response clearly showed rejection of violence, with citizens declaring “this is not us” and affirming that Kashmiris are “peace loving people” .

Abdullah said this public sentiment sent a “stern message to Pakistan” that terrorism has no support among locals. He added that similar incidents have previously been condemned across Kashmir, including shutdowns, protests, and solidarity gatherings after major attacks.

The veteran leader also flagged a growing internal challenge, saying the biggest threat to youth is now a rising “drug epidemic” that is damaging society. He expressed concern over local involvement in the narcotics trade and called for strict action alongside a “society-wide campaign” involving parents, citizens, and communities.

Abdullah further said “wars are no solution” , warning that global conflicts such as the Russia-Ukraine war and West Asia tensions worsen inflation, deepen poverty, and harm ordinary people worldwide.

He also reiterated that peace, dialogue, and collective responsibility are essential for long-term stability in Jammu and Kashmir and beyond.
