Engineering college bus accident in Bhadhradri Kothagudem: 32 students injured

A bus carrying students of KLR Engineering College met with an accident on Friday morning near Mondikunta village in Ashwapuram Mandal, Bhadhradri Kothagudem district. A total of 32 students were injured and taken to the hospital for treatment.

According to the college principal, Dr. K. Rajendra Prasad, the accident occurred around 8:50 AM. A faculty member immediately informed him over the phone. The bus, carrying about 60 students at the time, was forced to swerve suddenly to avoid an oncoming motorcycle on a narrow road. In trying to avoid the bike, the driver lost control, and the bus toppled onto the roadside.

Dr. Rajendra Prasad emphasized that the incident was entirely accidental and that there was no negligence on the college’s part. He added that the bus was in good condition and the driver was driving carefully. The college management will cover all medical expenses for the injured students.

Bhadhradri Area Hospital Resident Medical Officer (RMO), Dr. Rajasekhar Reddy, said that of the 32 students admitted, 24 had minor injuries and received first aid. Five students sustained serious injuries and were kept under observation in the hospital, including one who was admitted to the ICU due to chest pain. Three students were shifted to private hospitals after discussion with the college management. Two of them are stable, while one remains in critical condition. The rest of the students are expected to be discharged after 5-6 hours of observation.

According to Ashwapuram police, the accident took place around 9 AM while the students were on their way to college. Most of the injured sustained minor injuries, though one student’s condition is reported to be serious. All injured students are receiving treatment at the Bhadhradri Kothagudem Government Hospital.
