A Zurich-bound flight operated by Swiss International Air Lines was forced to abort takeoff at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport in the early hours of Sunday after an engine malfunction triggered smoke from the landing gear , officials said.

The Airbus A330 , operating flight LX147 to Zurich , had 232 passengers on board, including four infants , when the incident occurred shortly after 1:00 am . According to airline officials, the crew detected an issue with one of the engines , prompting them to reject the takeoff as a safety precaution .

Sources said smoke was observed from the port-side landing gear , leading to the activation of a full emergency response on the runway. Following an assessment, the crew decided to evacuate all passengers and crew members .

Passengers were evacuated using emergency slides , while stairs were arranged for a few individuals who were unable to use the slides. Six passengers are currently undergoing medical evaluation , the airline confirmed, without specifying the nature of their injuries.

The incident caused a significant delay to the flight , which has been grounded until further notice . Airline authorities said technical experts will be flown in to inspect the aircraft and determine the next course of action.

The airline is also working to arrange alternative travel plans for the affected passengers, though no revised departure schedule has been announced yet.

Officials confirmed that no serious injuries or casualties have been reported.
