Encroachment removal turns violent in Chomu, Rajasthan: four policemen injured

A late night encroachment removal drive near the local bus stand turned violent on Friday, leaving four police personnel injured after a group allegedly pelted stones at officials.

The incident took place around 3 am when some individuals reportedly reinstalled railings and temporary structures that had been voluntarily removed the previous evening following directions from the local administration. Acting on inputs, police reached the spot and began dismantling the structures using a JCB excavator.

Soon after the operation began, a section of people at the site allegedly turned aggressive and started throwing stones at the police team. Four policemen deployed for law and order duty sustained injuries in the attack. All the injured were shifted to a nearby hospital, where they received treatment and were later discharged. Their condition is reported to be stable.

To bring the situation under control, the police resorted to tear gas and dispersed the crowd. Around half a dozen people were detained for questioning, and security was tightened in and around the area. As a precautionary measure, internet services were suspended for 24 hours to prevent the spread of rumours.

Police officials said the situation is currently peaceful and under control. They added that cases will be registered against those involved, more arrests are likely, and strict legal action will be taken. Encroachment removal drives will continue as per law with adequate security deployment.
