Emraan Hashmi Denies Playing Mehmood In RD Burman Biopic, Clears The Air On Rumours

Emraan Hashmi has denied reports that he will play veteran actor and comedian Mehmood in the upcoming RD Burman biopic. The actor took to X to clear the air after reports about his casting started doing the rounds.

“Just to clarify, the reports about me playing Mehmood saab in a biopic are untrue. I haven’t been approached for the film, nor am I doing it,” Hashmi wrote.

The reports had linked Hashmi to the role of Mehmood, who shared a close friendship with RD Burman. However, Hashmi’s statement makes it clear that he is not part of the film and was never approached for the role.

There is also fresh buzz around the rest of the cast. The film is being directed by Neeraj Pandey, with reports suggesting that Farhan Akhtar is set to portray RD Burman. Akshay Kumar is also reportedly joining the project for a special appearance. Recent reports claim he could play legendary superstar Rajesh Khanna, who shared a strong professional bond with RD Burman.

This also explains why the latest reports have caused some confusion. While Hashmi was being linked to Mehmood, Akshay’s reported role is said to be that of Rajesh Khanna. Both actors were therefore being discussed in connection with people from RD Burman’s life.

RD Burman, popularly known as Pancham Da, remains one of Indian cinema’s most loved music composers. His partnership with Rajesh Khanna produced several memorable films and songs, making Khanna an important part of the musical story the biopic could explore.

Meanwhile, Hashmi is busy with the release of Awarapan 2. Directed by Nitin Kakkar, the film brings him back as Shivam Pandit nearly two decades after the original. Disha Patani and Shabana Azmi also feature in the sequel. The film is scheduled to release on August 14, with its trailer receiving a strong response from fans.

For now, one thing is clear: Emraan Hashmi will not be playing Mehmood in the RD Burman biopic.
