Empty chair protest against Chevella MLA

A symbolic protest by BRS workers in Nawabpet, Vikarabad district, has sparked debate in Telangana politics. Known as the “Empty Chair Demonstration,” it targeted Chevella MLA Kale Yadayya, whose absence at a mandal-level meeting fueled speculation about his loyalty despite his repeated denials of leaving the party.

Workers left a chair vacant for Yadayya, saying it reflected his lack of commitment. The unusual protest highlighted growing discontent within BRS ranks after its 2024 election defeat. Former minister Sabitha Indra Reddy admitted the party faces turbulence, with rumors of defections adding to unease.

Local cadres voiced frustration, stressing that MLAs should stand by workers during tough times. Yadayya’s repeated absences have only deepened doubts, turning the protest into a wider symbol of BRS’s internal struggles. As Congress and BJP look to expand, uncertainty over Yadayya’s next move could carry political consequences beyond Chevella.
