Emmys set for September 2026 return to Los Angeles

The 78th Primetime Emmy Awards, which will honour television shows and performances that aired between June 1, 2025 and May 31, 2026, will take place on September 14, 2026, at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles. NBC will broadcast the ceremony and stream it live on Peacock, continuing its tradition of hosting the Emmys on a Monday night to avoid any clash with Sunday Night Football.

The Creative Arts Emmys, which recognise essential behind-the-scenes achievements including editing, sound, cinematography, casting and guest acting, will be held earlier on September 5 and 6. NBC has not yet announced the host or producing team for the 2026 ceremony. The network last handled the awards in 2022, when Kenan Thompson served as host and production was led by Done & Dusted along with Hudlin Entertainment.

The Television Academy is still finalising its full calendar for the season, but nominations are expected to be announced in July. The Emmys continue to be one of the most prestigious honours in global entertainment, celebrating excellence across drama, comedy, limited series, animation, nonfiction, variety, talk and reality programming. In recent years, the Academy has expanded and adjusted categories to reflect the rapid growth of streaming platforms and new forms of storytelling.

After the delayed 2023 ceremony on Fox recorded the lowest ratings in Emmy history, the awards have shown significant recovery. The 2025 edition on CBS drew 7.59 million viewers who watched The Studio, The Pitt and Adolescence take home the night’s top honours. With viewership rising, industry competition intensifying and a wide eligibility field for 2026, the upcoming ceremony aims to build on the renewed momentum while celebrating another transformative year in television.
