Election Watch Tightens as Liquor Seizures Surface in Gajwel, Sircilla
With the Telangana municipal elections gathering momentum, fresh attempts to woo voters have come to light, sparking political buzz across the state. Enforcement teams conducting routine checks uncovered large stocks of liquor and essential commodities in two politically sensitive constituencies — Gajwel , represented by former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao , and Sircilla , the stronghold of former minister K.T. Rama Rao .
In Gajwel, police raided the residence of BRS candidate Goli Mamatha from Ward No. 2 of Pragnapur Municipality , where sizable quantities of liquor and daily-use goods were seized. Officials said the stockpile was allegedly meant to influence voters ahead of the civic polls.
A similar scene unfolded in Sircilla, where authorities recovered a large consignment of liquor from the house of BRS candidate Darnam Aruna , contesting from Ward No. 5 . The seized material, officials noted, was stored in clear violation of election norms. Cases have been registered and investigations are ongoing.
The fact that such seizures were made in constituencies associated with senior political leaders has added fuel to political debate, drawing sharp attention from rival parties and observers alike.
Meanwhile, election officials said intensified enforcement following the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct has resulted in the seizure of cash, liquor and other materials worth ₹2.02 crore across the state. Of this, liquor alone accounted for nearly ₹84.89 lakh , highlighting the scale of attempts to influence voters during the election season.
